Club Captains Report

There was not a great turnout of golfers on Saturday because of the weather conditions, it was overcast with showery periods and strong wind and it was also very cold for most of the day.

The course and greens are great to play on but there is a lot of surface water around the course and the golf ball does not carry far making some of the holes quite long for some of us older generation.

On Saturday the 21st July we had the Joll Cup Final. The winner was Robert Middleton who beat Bruce Taylor 3 / 2. Well done Robert, Bruce has been on a roll this year being the reigning Intermediate match play champion for 2018.

The Rest played a Russian Stableford Competition (partners & stableford points multiplied together). You don’t get as much run in the winter, which is reflected in some of the scores that we had on Saturday, the top score being only 69 points.

Results: Nathan Loppy, Steven Voyle 69, Robin Broadmore, Barry Newlove 68, Robbie Busing, Shane Weir 67, Michael Loppy, Peter Loppy 63, Kevin Mancer, Ace Se’e 63.

There were two twos on Saturday: King Of the Twos Ivor Sarten 3rd, Paul Rauputu 3rd (Two balls each on the board ).

Raffle Results: S.Voyle , Richard Hamel , Robin.B, Robert Middleton , Ken Irish , Paul Fairhurst , Jo.B.

This Saturday the 28th July is a Rabbits Competition (Hidden Holes Front & Back Nine plus or minus Stableford points )

The Format will be Stableford.

A reminder to have your names up for the Men’s Top Dog Competition before the closing date of the 4th August. A little birdy has told me that some players are not happy with the drawn partner format this year. This is a trial that the Match Committee have decided to try, if the consensus is that it is not wanted we will revert to the pick your own partners next year. Please have a talk to myself and Robert or any of the other Match Committee members on this subject and voice your opinions. We want to make the Top Dog Format suitable for the majority of players that want to enter so we have a good field of golfers in this competition.

Thank You.

Steven Voyle.

PRO – TIP

CHIPPING: How to practice & improve your Chipping

Take 6 balls, your 8 iron, PW & Lob. Go to the edge of the green & hit 2 balls with each club. Take notice as to which club hits the balls nearer to the pin. Putt them into the hole. Now go to a different position & repeat 2 balls with each club & again notice which club suits the lie & angle of shot. Again, have a game with yourself & putt them into the hole so that you are also practising your putting. Now go to another spot & repeat the exercise. Many golfers play the same club wherever they are around the green which then becomes their “favourite club” but not necessarily the easy club to use from the lie. Try the practice routine & see new results from a Sound Chipping Drill.

Good Luck & Good Golfing
