Good golfing for the last round on the 6th April and may your putts drop over the next few weeks. The pace of play was pretty good again on Saturday so let’s keep that up please.

Can we please take extra care when filling in cards at the end of the round please check you have signed, check score, and fill in all the details please ……. we don’t want to DQ anyone for non-correct card, it’s up to you.

The third round is on the 6th April and will be a seeded draw. That will go up over the next week, so please check. Thanks to Chop Chop Butler for doing the draws, it’s not easy and he does a great job.

This week a Stroke-play rest and the De BRETT CUP (net comp) is on.

Pennant

Well, Sunday at MANAIA.

Team 1 had a win 5.5 -3.5 over Hawera so a good way to end the comp lads …well done. (Congratulations to Chop Chop Butler on beating his TWIN brother.)

Team two snuck in with a 5.5 - 3.5 win over NP and it went to the wire.

Last hole ..with NO repeat of the  Kaitake last putt. The Monkey’s gone smoothie ……. let it go …JUST .... let it go son.  Good team win boys. So that puts us into the quarters, this is yet to be named where and who. Note from Lofty: when playing match play against a lawyer ALWAYS REMEMBER, the only GIMMIES they will give.. will be shorter than the …..the BILL.

Waitara have their Crowded House open on Sunday 31st (see notice below) so if you’re looking for a Sunday hit ..support the  neighbours if we can.

Contacts are Tony Martin 02041045978, Sharlene Ward 0273630062, Peter Cullen 06 754 7561

Thanks, and good golfing.

Your Club Captain Lofty.

Wednesday Club

This Wednesday I think quite a few of our golfers had looked at the weather report and did not like what they saw as a small field turned out for the day .  Several visitors, our members who ignored the weather report gloom and all, enjoyed a warm but windy day that resulted in some good rounds of golf.

Congratulations to all the winners.

Geoff Peters 41 Stableford and a $15 New World Voucher.

Bob Crow 40 Stableford and a $10 New World Voucher.

Carl Beale 40 Stableford and a $5 New World Voucher.

Brett Kerr 38 Stableford and a $5 New World Voucher.

Wayne Beal 37 Stableford and a $5 New World Voucher.

John Rayner 37 Stableford and a $5 New World Voucher.

The side competition involved counting the fairways hit off the tee. The winner was Geoff Peters who was accurate 13 times.

Twos were had by Bruce Bishop and Geoff Peters.  Seven draws were available in the raffle and one of our visitors Geoff Street scored two of them.

Well, cross those fingers for a better weather report for next Wednesday when hopefully we'll be able to head on out for a "hit" in sunny, calm and warm weather!!   Well here's hoping...

Cheers everyone

Ian

Last match of the Taranaki Solar Twilight. Thursday 4th  April from 4pm to 6pm, Meals are available book early to give Jan a heads up! Chase the ACE over $720!!!!!!!

Saturday Ladies

The heat was getting to us all by the time we finished play on Saturday in spite of the early start for those playing Nancy McCormick Foursomes.  Jo Broadmore & Trish Crawford  played some lovely golf and combined really well to come in with a nett 69.  They both get a $5.00 voucher.  Twos were drawn and they went to Lesley Elliott & Joy East.  They also get a $5.00 voucher each.

The best of the others was Fay Rowe with a nett 68.  Joy Andrews and Fay both had twos and shared the days winnings.

Frances Butler won the 9 Hole competition with a nett 32.

This Saturday  the competitions are all nett, LGU, Home Pennant, Rnd 1 Stroke Play and it is also a Qualifying round for the National Teams Event.  There is an additional $3.00 entry for this.  The National final is at Manukorihi on May 1st which is a Wednesday so if you qualify you must be available to play on that day.

The 9 Hole competition is also nett.

Ladies Pennant

The Mid Week ladies played Opunake at New Plymouth on 18th March. They had 2 wins & 3 losses so still have no points. They have a big break now until the 29th April when they play Stratford at Inglewood.

The Weekend Team played Te Ngutu at Westown Sunday 24th.  We had a loss this time 3 ½ to 1 ½ .  We are still on 6 points but now 1st equal with 4 other teams.  The next round is on 7th April at Manaia vs Inglewood.

Lesley.

Tuesday Ladies

Well what a shock to the system teeing off in the RAIN.  The rain cleared after a few holes but everyone struggled.  Bring on the sunshine.  Best net for the 18 hole ladies went to Robyn Chamberlain with 73.  Joy East got a two on the 7th and Marie on the 3rd.  Putting points went to Joy Andrews 3 points, Marie and Jocelyn 2 points and Robyn 1 point.  The 9 hole winner was Dot Bowers 43 nett. Frances 3 points for putting and 2 points for Dot and Julie.

Raffle winner was Jocelyn.  Well done to all winners.

Next week the start time is 9.30 so please have names in by 9.15 please.  Fay is the starter.

At this stage we are playing the first round of Strokeplay.  This may alter depending on the work being done on the greens.

Following golf a slideshow will be played showing all the new rules following any discussion that is needed.

Congratulations to Helen Watt and Marie winning the Nancy McCormick foursomes.

Good luck for the Strokeplay Champs.

Marie

PRO – TIP

WHEN IN TROUBLE !!!  -  GET IT OUT 1ST TIME?

We have a saying in Pro Golf – LEARN to drop 1 shot but not 2 – 3 or 4 !!!

I know it is sometimes difficult to resist the temptation of attempting the “miracle save,” but believe me only 1 out of 10 comes off & that’s generous. When you reflect on your round in the bar, you finish up saying “if only ??”

So next time when in trees or in trouble try the safe shot, sideways with a 5 – 7 iron or even the wedge not the “3 wood !!!”

Good Luck & Good Golfing.

Professional John Garner.
