Club Captains Report

Hello to all. Hope all is well with you and your families.

Last week’s results for the De Brett Cup.

We had some great weather so I hope your games went well. Some of you may have noticed I was not there on Saturday, this was NOT by choice. I was on probation at home doing the gardens with the grand kids and the chief warden (wifey ) Enough said about that…Gardens do look better.

Just a quick note, thanks for keeping the pace ticking along. I had a few comments on pace of play so let’s keep that up.

Good golfing for the last Strokeplay round on the 6th April and may your putts drop.

This week the De Brett Cup (net comp) was played and some very hot scores came in so well done to all.

Paul (Top Gear) Clarkson must have driven the ball fast and straight or at least cornered very well to come in with a very hot 57 nett  .Well done Paul, great round. Murray Peterson came in with a good 67 and Smoothie Rauputu was at it again carrying some good form and long may it last with 67 as well, they were followed by four elder statesmen of the club

Johnny-be-good Rayner, Steve Plumb-bob Voyle , Peter Loppy , and Gary  (The Clown) Crawford, all on 68. Good golf boys.

Looking at some of the other scores, looks like Batman left Robin in the bat cave (a very dark place) and Robert (Chop-Chop) Butler had a real blinder (literally must have been blind folded) Maybe he needs to wear some HI VIZ. Robin ZORO Broadmore must have forgotten the clubs and played with his sword. In golf we must have fun.

Pennants; this Sunday at Westown. Manu  #2 team, good golfing lads.

3rd and final round of Strokeplay this weekend so good golfing to all.

Wednesday Club

Well we had our fingers crossed for a sunny, calm and warm day BUT the weather gods decided to have a play with the equation. Sunny it might have been but colder and windier it was and this certainly reflected in the scores for the day. 21 players hit the fairways with their chippers sharpened and their putters --- we won't say too much about that except for the fact that John Rayner was way ahead of the pack.!

Div 1

Cliff Oxenham 37 Stableford and a $15 New World Voucher

Robert Middleton 36 Stableford and a $5 New World Voucher

Phil Wilson 36 Stableford and a $5 New World Voucher

Nathan Loppy35 Stableford and a $5 New World Voucher

Div 2

Jim Newlove 36 Stableford and a $15 New World Voucher

Rod Andrews 33 Stableford and a $15 New World Voucher

Graeme Parsons 32 Stableford and a $15 New World Voucher

This week's side competition was putts.  Well done John Rayner who kept his head down slotted the putts and left the opposition in his wake.  25 putts I think it was and a $10 New World voucher.   Gary Fulton and Rod Andrews had twos on the 3rd hole and scored two golf balls each for their accuracy.  The raffle had five draws and one or two of the winners were part of that team who regularly have the lucky number unfortunately they don't seem keen to loan that skill to me for a few weeks.

On Saturday it's the third round of the stroke play champs so best of luck to the Wednesday players competing, cross your fingers for good weather in seven days’ time when we will do it all again!!

Cheers Ian

Saturday Ladies

Another big group of ladies this Saturday for the 1st round of Strokeplay.  It was also LGU, Home Pennant and a Qualifying round for the Teams Event, so lots of paper work to be done.  Winners of the day’s vouchers were, Nicole-net 77, Marie-net 66 and Fiona net 69.  Twos were drawn and went to Lesley, Kath & Andrea.  Fiona also won the chemist voucher.

Putting results: Jude& Christine 3pts-27 putts, Andrea 2pts-28 putts and Joy.E, Lesley & Nicole 1 pt each for 31 putts.

Colleen Hoskins won the 9 Hole competition.

This Saturday is the 2nd round of Strokeplay for 18 hole ladies and the 9 Hole competition is stableford.

Good luck to the Pennant team playing Inglewood at Manaia on Sunday.

National Competitions

These have all been completed for 2019.  Congratulations to all the winners.  The Aotearoa Cup was won by Jo Broadmore with a net 63.  The Coronation Medal was won jointly by Christine Ogle & Jude Mita with net 73.  The Best Gross was won by Lesley Elliott with gross 83 and the Vets Trophy was won by Helen Watt net 67.

The Nancy McCormick Foursomes was won by Marie Rayner & Helen Watt.

The team to represent Manukorihi for the National Teams Event is Andrea Fraser, Christine Ogle, Lesley Elliott and Fay Rowe.

Tuesday Ladies

What a perfect day for golf but gosh the conditions have changed quickly, no more run for miles and the grass seems to be romping away too.

There were only 3 9 Holers and Dot B had the best score with 59 gross.

Not a lot of 18 Holers either but Joc won the voucher with a nett 73.

Putting results were: Helen W 3 pts for 27, Fay 1 pt for 31 and Marie, Joy A and Rhonda McF get 1 pt for 32.

2s were drawn and Kath along with Fay won a voucher each.

The raffle was won by Helen J.

Next week is the 2nd round of Strokeplay and the starter is Helen J.

PRO – TIP

RULES.

The one thing that every golfer should have in his golf bag is a Rule Book. You can pick one up free in the Clubhouse. Most years there are additions & changes so it would be wise to acquaint yourself to the basic rules at least :

                         1.   Out of Bounds.

                         2.   Lost Ball.

                         3.   Water & Lateral Hazards.

                         4.   Ground Under Repair ( GUR ).

                         5.   Unplayable Ball.

My advice would be simply to read about Etiquette on pages 18 – 21 & The Definitions pages 22 – 35. These cover most of the vital information that you’ll require on a round to round basis. But, if in doubt rather than hold up play, put a 2ND ball in play (a provisional ball). Play out both balls & get a ruling when you get in the Clubhouse. You’ll be surprised how many people are willing to give you the benefit of their experience & how many variations to the rule there are !?!?!?    Get yourself a RULE BOOK.

Good Luck & Good Golfing.

Professional John Garner.
