Club Captains Report

Last Saturday was a day where the weather was not quite perfect but playable for the Top Club Qualifying and there was a mixed bag of scores posted.

Winners of the vouchers for the day:

Div1 Ivor 40 points, Robert 39, Gary Johnson, Nathan Loppy and Steve Voyle all 37.

Div 2 President David 43, Ricey 42 (Getting warmed up for Aussie) Martin and Carl B both with 39.

Must warn members partnered with Gary Crawford, you need big shoulders!! Ask Robin Broadmore, as he needed a massage when the round had finished. Great stuff Gary, it was very entertaining.

There were only two two/s for the day, Robert and, you wouldn't guess, Gary Crawford. It was the only hole he could talk about as far as a good one is concerned.

Ten raffle winners for the day and Gazza couldn't even get one of those. Tough day at the office.

The players that are representing Manu at Inglewood on the 15th September Top Club are Ivor Sarten, Robert Butler, David Butler and Marie Rayner. (Welcome to the family Ivor.)

This Saturday we are playing the Trueman trophy Stableford. Just the one round so bring your best on the day.

Sunday is the Kiwi Butcher Open with a three tee start between 9am and 10am with the field almost full, so if you wish to play contact Robert 0272325595 and we will do our best to get you in the field. The starting sheets will be on the notice board until late Saturday afternoon

Reminder, if anyone would like to play in this year’s Top Dog the sheet is on notice board, write your name up and we will get it sorted.

Good Golfing

Saturday Ladies

Heading off early on Saturday was a good plan as we were in only about 30 min and the rain came. The days comp was stableford for the Qualifying round for the Top Club Team. Marie Rayner with 41 points will be the lady’s rep in the team to play at Inglewood on Sunday 15th September.

The days vouchers were won by Andrea with 39 points and Helen Jenkins with 41 on C/B from Marie. Jude gets a $10.00 voucher for a two on the 3rd.

Putting points went to: Nicole 3pts-28 putts, Joy E. 2pts-29 putts, Sue, Lesley& Andrea 1pt each for 32 putts.

The Weekend Team challenged Urenui for the Taplin Cup on Sunday 18th. Urenui were too strong and held off another challenge.

We have 2 competitive teams lined up for the Pennant Challenge to be played between the Weekend team and the Mid-Week team this Saturday.

The Weekend ladies have been hard to beat in recent years and will want to continue their winning streak, but the Midweek ladies will be getting a few shots and will hope to have the advantage. It will be a good challenge. Let’s hope the weather makes for an enjoyable day.

Lesley

Tuesday Ladies

A cold wind but no rain and some sunshine so not too bad.

Dot B won the 9 holers competition which was LGU. Your putting results were, Dot & Joan 3 pts for 16, Tere 2 for 22 & Julie 1 for 23.

Christine and Robyn played their semi-final match for the Manukorihi Cup which Robyn won 5/4 so the final will be between Robyn and Marie.

The 18 holers played par and Fay won the 1st division with all square and Kath the 2nd division with -2 so a $5 voucher for you both.

2s were drawn and Fay and Pauline were the lucky ones.

The raffle was won by Coral.

Next week we are playing LGU, Home pennant and the 1st round of the Foreman Trophy and the starter is Joy A.

On Saturday we have the Weekend / Midweek Pennant challenge which starts at 9.30. The teams are as follows but maybe not in this order due to handicap changes this week.

Weekend: Joy E, Jude, Nicole, Andrea, Fiona, Lesley, Jo B and Trish.

Mid-week: Fay, Pauline, Jo F, Marie, Bev, Kath, Helen J & Helen W.

PRO – TIP

COURTESY to OTHERS & THE COURSE.

Golf is very much a social game, playing with others in friendly competition but so often these days simple courtesies seem to have been forgotten.

Standing still & not talking while others are playing their shots!!

Standing opposite your partner so that he can see you, & not wondering where you are or if you are in danger of being hit!! Watching each other play & not walking in front thus causing a danger of being hit. Being ready to play when it’s your turn will speed up play no end.

Repairing your pitch marks on the green & replacing your divots is the least you can do in appreciation of the hard work the Greens Staff put in to make your round so very enjoyable. So, give a little thought to Others & The Course not just your own game.

Good Luck & Good Golfing.

Professional John Garner.
