Club Captains Report

Last Saturday the wind was up a little and tested a few players’ judgement. We played for the LF Trueman Trophy, format stableford.

The player that had their game going was Barry Newlove with 44 points, well done Barry and congratulations.

Division 1 You will never guess Gary Crawford 42 points, Robbie Busing had an improving 41, Kevin Mancer and Gary Johnson both with 38.

Division 2 Barry Newlove 44, Phil Wilson 39 and William Wadsworth 38.

Two's to Garry Johnson, Big Al and Brendon Dew and also raffles were well supported (thanks again), this includes the $4.00 drinks raffle which should be called the Crawford Cup.

Sunday was the Kiwi Butcher Open and we had eighty-eight players take on the challenge of Manu in a very steady breeze almost a wind coming up the par 5s.

A great effort by all those who put time into making this tournament a success, thank you to all.

The golfer of the Day was Ivor with a 77 gross and there were twenty-seven other players receiving those great meat packs from Kiwi Butcher. There were also thirteen twos scored with Richard getting two of them. (No jackpot on Sundays)

Closest to the pins were also given out over all the par three's along with a heap of raffle winners and I must thank all the players for supporting these as we sold 324 tickets on the day.

This weekend we have the first round of the Top Dog Qualifying and due to the tight time frame, we don't expect you to play with your drawn partner's this weekend. dot.Golf has been setup so that your scores will be combined after your round. The following Saturday Round 2, you should play together. All pairs will go through to matchplay, it is just a matter of sorting out the draw.

The pairs were drawn by a person who is not taking part in this event

Vets Pennants

Another round of Vets Pennants was played at Kaitake in cold windy conditions on Monday, with mixed results for both teams in squaring their matches:

Manukorihi Yellow played Inglewood, with Wayne Kopu/Geoff Peters having a half, Peter Lopusiewicz/Dave Williams having a loss, and Rod Andrews/Trevor Hughes a win.

Manukorihi Black played Urenui, with John Rayner/Mike Leterman having a half, John Chandler/John van der Leeden having a loss, and Colin Upson/Greg Fowler a win.

Congratulations everyone.

Next round is on Monday 2 September at Waitara, not Te Ngutu. Manukorihi Black plays Inglewood Black off the 1st tee while Manukorihi Yellow plays Inglewood Red off the 10th tee.

See you there.

Saturday Ladies

The annual pennant challenge between the Weekend Ladies and the Mid-Week Ladies was played on Saturday and fortunately we had a decent day.

Again, the Weekend Ladies managed to win the Trophy with 4 wins, 3 losses and 1 all square. We all enjoyed the day and the matches were competitive with very few shots in any of the games. It was great to have such a good group of ladies participating.

This Saturday we play LGU, Home Pennant and the 1st round of the Foreman Trophy. All net. The draw for Saturday Top Dog will be done this week too.

The 9 Hole ladies play net plus putts.

PRO – TIP

Taking the Club Back Altogether is a common phrase spoken about but not done often enough when playing?

It simply means that the left shoulder & the left arm, both hands & club head start the backswing all in one piece !! this will definitely help you become a better golfer. So, take that Club away Slowly & Altogether.

Good Luck & Good Golfing.

Professional John Garner.
