Club Captains Report
Hello to all. Welcome to the Matchplay champs. Once again, the rain tricked us and passed by and we were all good to go.
So as for results this week, well done to all winners and good luck in the finals on June 8th
So here are your matches as they have played out. Firstly, I know some players can’t make the finals and that is a shame, but everyone is entitled to play as per the draw, so we may end up with a couple of finals being a forgone conclusion. I know it’s hard and some of us might not like it.
I have been in contact with the match committee and we have decided by a vote that:
If a player is not available on the finals day, June 8th, but can arrange to play BEFORE, NOT AFTER, June the 8th, with agreement from the opposition then they can play their match, this year only, the same may not apply in future.
If the opposition cannot agree a date or wants to play on June the 8th then that will be the date of the match. If one player cannot make that date then the match will be given via default. The available player will need to be at the course on June 8th and wait there at least 5 mins to claim the match and they do not have to play at all. Thanks. Your match committee.
This weeks comp was, outside the Matchplay, a par comp and some good scores were put in. Big JR gave away a heap of prizes in the club Raffle. Please check the board by the bar and collect your spoils, so well done to all.

12 twos were struck, and the jackpot struck in most unlikely fashion, but it doesn’t matter how you get them. A two is a two.
MATCH PLAY RESULTS.
Seniors: The Arrow overcome the Dart in the seniors so well-done Ivor. Solid as always, good luck in the final.
The Rock Fairhurst rolled over and squashed the filling out of Sausage and marches on with some good form to take on the Arrow in the final (36 holes, I hope the AED IS CHARGED) and if they clash we may see some sparks fly. MY pick 50/50 (Ed note – mind those fence palings Lofty)
Juniors: JC (the Statler) and Mike (Waldorf)
They have been mates for so long but came into battle. Even with his new driver Statler couldn’t tip his old mate Waldorf, and so Big Mike goes on to play Peter Loppy in the Finals after Pete took out Geoff Peters.
(Ed note: Hope my editing has not lost your meaning. I get a bit lost with your nicknames).
Limits: Peter Wills took over the lead late and held on against John Strong and so meets BATMAN MCDOWALL who beat Mike Burkhart to make the final, so good luck in the final lads.
General news: Car parking …can we please use car park and NOT park in front of cart sheds and please keep the entry to the course track clear as well please. We are trying to keep the spot outside the sliding door by the bar side of the club house for the bar manager as he is in out a lot with beers etc. JC really needs that spot most of the time so if we can stay in the car park main area that would be much appreciated.
Please use the path when going to the 6th / 12th tees and don’t cut across the tee blocks either-way thanks.
New putting green works; This has been started and starting to green up so looking forward to that.
NOTE WE HAVE MADE SOME CHANGES STARTING THIS SATURDAY FOR THE SWEEP.

2.We will be trying TWO starter sheets hcps OF 0-18 DIVISON ONE and 19-UP DIVISON TWO so there will be TWO SHEETS please put your name on the correct sheet. This is to help speed up the working out at the end of the day.

Boys Golf Trip
All those that have got in on the golf trip this year will need to start handing over some money to JC so he can make arrangements, please, thanks.
We are going to have a new promotion on Sundays over the winter months and we are calling it FUN DAY SUNDAY at 10-dollar green fees for the day. We are after some marketing ideas to promote the club’s profile so please if you have any ideas get them in.

Wednesday Club
Another great day at Manukorihi with 34 players out having fun, well some of us??. Division One winner was Kerry Edgcombe with 43 points $15, Wayne Kopu 40, $10. Phil Wilson 39, $5, Carl Beale, Tony Bromfield and John Rayner all 37 points for $5,
Division Two. Brain Rattenbury 40 points $15 by lot from Greg Fowler $10, Don Bowers $5, John Chandler 39 $5, Jim Newlove 38 $5, Richard Crowe 37 $5, Bob Crow and Rod Andrews 36 for $5. Greg Fowler had 2 twos. There were no balls in the jackpot, but Greg picked up 5 balls as he was the only one. Greg also won the hidden holes for a pack of bacon.
Raffle winners, J R x 2, Robin Broadmore x 2, Tony Pope, Mike Leterman, Richard Crowe and Tony Bromfield.
The Wednesday Club will start the Strokeplay on Wednesday 29th May, best three of four rounds to win the Strokeplay on net, and the best 2 two rounds to qualify for the Matchplay.

Saturday Ladies
Saturday’s weather was a bit doubtful with some black cloud and a bit of early rain, but it soon cleared away and golfing conditions were very pleasant.
The ladies matchplay competition got underway today. Results were: Fay Rowe b Nicole Mancer, Jude Mita b Joy East, Marie Rayner b Fiona Rook and Helen Watt b Sue Nobbs. Faye Rowe had a two on the 7th and gets a $10.00 voucher. Best of the rest was Kath Alvis with 38 stbf Colleen Hoskins was the best of the 9 Holers with net 42.
Matchplay continues this Saturday and the others will play Stbf. The 9 Hole competition is Stbf also.
Tuesday Ladies
Another beautiful day for golf and the course in fantastic condition. Thank you for the nice mown greens Paul. Much appreciated.
The best of the 9 Holers was Fiona, (changed allegiances today) who won Putts. Joan M won her match.
Bev burned it up with 41 sfd and won the voucher for the day.
Match results were: Christine bt Jo , Lesley bt Marie & Rhonda bt Joc.
There were 2s, Jo on 3rd and Fay on 15th, a $5 voucher for each of you.
The raffle was won by Frances.
Next week is the 2nd rnd of Matchplay and the starter is Robyn.
Those not playing matches will play Bing, Bang Bongo.

Ladies Pennant
The Weekend Pennant team played Manaia at New Plymouth on Sunday 5th. They had a win and now have 8 points, still 2 behind the leaders with 2 rounds to be played. The competition is now very close.
POINTS TO DATE: MANAIA and TE NGUTU both on 10 points, URENUI and INGLEWOOD both on 9 points WESTOWN and MANUKORIHI both on 8 points, NEW PLYMOUTH 7 points, KAITAKE 4 points, HAWERA 3 points, HAWERA AUTO COURT 2 points
The next round is at Inglewood on 19 May and we play Hawera Auto Court.
The Midweek Pennant on Monday 29th April was rained off. Manukorihi hosted it on Monday 6th May but we had a bye. The next round is on Monday 13th May at Stratford vs Patea.

From the President.
As some of you may have noticed, I have been away for the past nine weeks travelling around the South Island. As we made our way from New Plymouth down to Greymouth across to Christchurch and back to New Plymouth, we played golf at 17 courses, nine of them were 9 hole courses with 18 tees, only 4 of the 17 had Dot Golf. We played in many of their club days and were very well looked after by them all. Some days there were only small numbers from 7 to 50, Avondale in Christchurch there were 160 players on their Saturday club day, a club that is doing very well after the quake with a new club house and a remake of fairways and greens. Arriving home and playing on Wednesday, the Manukorihi golf club would be one of the best around.
Many thanks to all committee members, course staff and helpers over the past weeks as it has been a busy time with the Taranaki 5000, Vets week, Pennant finals, Ladies open and all club days, Manukorihi Golf Club is in a very good place, thanks again.

PRO – TIP
The most used club in the bag is the putter so this week the tip is on putting.
Imagine an EYE in the FACE of your putter. If the EYE goes to THE HOLE where would the ball go ??? Correct, THE HOLE. So the next practice session you have on our putting green, imagine THE EYE IN THE FACE OF YOUR PUTTER & swing it to THE HOLE !!
