News Letter Course at Covid level 1

Club Captains Report

Hello to all. Hope we are all well.

Hope everyone enjoy a fun hit last week and it did sound like it I heard I few laughs across the course. Just one story from our for Chop chop (Robert B) and Lofty played Sunstrike (Robin B) and Santa (Rob Fraser) what a laugh over the whole day, but the story goes like this:

-2nd hole Chop chips to 2 feet Lofty pulls the left for a loss .This was followed by some jibbing all the way back to the 3rd tee block…EVER HEARD OF THAT OLD SAYING HE WHO LAUGHS LAST …..well Santa put them right hand side of the green 1 then sunstrike putted all the across to the left side down the bank 2 Santa putted up and down the bank 3 Sunstrike returned the shot with a replay 4 Santa then finally got it on the green 5 foot under the hole 5 Sunstrike then place a good putt MAYBE 6 Inches above the cup for their tap in 6. HO HO HO stepped up confident with a chipper in his hand FOR 4-inch tap in above the hole and I think if one of his reindeer had let one go it would of blown the ball in but! Then he chipped it to 3 inches for 7 and rest is history (nice fully played 8 lads) Moral of the story is ….as Johnny the pro would say DON’T CHIP WHEN YOU CAN PUTT LAD…….And to finish never call the win until the LAST Putt is DOWN….. ask Santa why when you see him……

Waitara New World Wednesday Club.

The day didn’t look great as the sun rose with rain until 8 30am that kept a lot of lads away, The course staff didn’t want any golf carts on the course as we had two days of rain and it was very wet under foot. This was also due to the coming events the mid monthly, the club match play finals and the tournament on Sunday.

With only 14 that turned up to play the Wednesday Committee cancelled the third round of stoke play until next week. Those that played had a good day with no rain although it was cool around the ears.

The best of the day was Peter Pearce with a net score of 73 to win a $20.00 Waitara New World Voucher, Rodney Jupp 75 for $10.00.

Dave Yates, Jim Newlove and Mike Burkhart all 76 net for $5.00. Peter Pearce had the only 2 picking up 2 golf balls. Raffle winners. Jim, Juppy, JC, Greg Fowler, Phil Wilson, Trevor Hughes and Geoff Peters picking up 2.

TARANAKI 5000.Sunday 23rd August at the Manaia Golf Club. Tickets from Nick at Taranaki Golf $100.00 Each. A round of golf with prizes and cash draws.Cheers, Wednesday Committee.

PRO – TIP

CCOURTESY to OTHERS & THE COURSE.

Golf is very much a social game, playing with others in friendly competition but so often these days simple courtesies seem to have been forgotten. Standing still & not talking while others are playing their shots!!

Standing opposite your partner so that he can see you & not wondering where you are or if you are in danger of being hit !! Watching each other play & not walking in front thus causing a danger of being hit. Being ready to play when it’s your turn will speed up play no end.

Repairing your pitch marks on the green & replacing your divots is the least you can do in appreciation of the hard work the Greens Staff put in to make your round so very enjoyable. So give a little thought to Others & The Course not just your own game.

Keep Well & Stay Safe

Good Luck & Good Golfing.

Professional John Garner.
