Club Captains Report
Saturday turned on yet another great day at Manukorihi. Captain’s V Secretary’s and an earlier start catching me out, but thanks to our President David who had sorted out a format. Thanks Dave, but unfortunately it must have affected your golf as I managed to take a beer off you.
The honours for the day went to the Captain’s with an average score of 68.38 with a dismal 70.26 from the Secretary’s (obviously missing Marie’s input).
The Wills Trophy winners were Trevor Hughes and Sue Nobbs to whom I must apologize for not announcing this at prize giving on Saturday. I will find the Trophy and polish it up for this weekend’s presentation.
A huge congratulations to Bruce Taylor for his first strike of the day of his brand new TP5 ball as he watched it bounce a couple of times and drop into the hole. Well done Bruce.
Twos went to Shane Weir, Pooch, Rod Andrews, Fay Rowe, ad Ted Danych.
Great support for the raffles saw 12 prizes go out.
On Friday we have a 9 hole open Tournament and a Police tourney in the afternoon.
Saturday is Round 2 of the Bleakley Tray.
Our congratulations to Kingston Taylor-Voyle for a fantastic win in New Plymouth Golf Club’s Senior division 2, which took in handicaps 6 to 12 I believe. That boy just keeps on achieving.
Handicap Pennants - played at Kaitake. A great day for the Number 1 team with a 8.5 to .5 win, well done boys keep it up. It must be said that I haven't heard anyone call JR the rock of the team very often, but 3 from 3, who can argue the point. Keep up the good form JR, you must have finally found the right combo of clubs in the bag and now Maree can sell the other 389 clubs and 47 chippers. The number 2 team snuck in with a draw 4.5 each and could have snatched it with some games going oh so close. Well done boys. New Plymouth round this week and Team 1 has Te Ngutu 3 and Team 2 has Kaitake 2, good luck lads.
This week sees the second round of the Bleakly Tray net comp, so good luck to all.
Urenui has the left handers coming up 10th March for those interested.

Sunday Pennants
Manukorihi 1 and 2 played at Waverly on Sunday and some of the guys played their first rounds down South. Comments were made on the lay out of the course and if anyone ever gets the chance to …..go play it ...as it really is worth it and they are a good social bunch down there. As for the results not so good with both teams dropping their matches but there were some good games that went to the last, so, ...could have been different. Match of the day was probably Paul (the Rock) Fairhurst when he took down Opunake’s favorite son Aaron Langton. This was one piece of tall timber to cut down, so this is a feather in the cap, so well done the Rock. So ...team 1 lost 5/4 and team two 7/2. Next week we are back to Kaitake and hope we can pull out a win each. Team 2 will be without Shane (the Muss) Weir as he has to mow the lawns... BUT, don’t panic….we have Gary (the Clown) Crawford back to take them on and the number 1 team have the Arrow Sarten and Lopsta back, I think.

Shootout
Going fishing this Saturday so if you are a paid-up member of the Shootout team tag the shootout option on Dot Golf when you are getting your card. In future if I can't get to golf on a Saturday you will see the Shootout option pop up on Dot Golf. Have a good round everyone.

The men's tour is venturing across the ditch (Gold Coast) in August, if you are interested see Paul R asap.
Vets Pennants
The final round of Vets Pennants was played at Westown in very windy conditions on Monday 25 February.
Manukorihi (Black) had mixed results, with John Rayner/Robert Middleton and John van der Leeden/Jim Newlove having losses, and Colin Upson/Greg Fowler a win.
Manukorihi (Yellow) also had mixed results, with Geoff Peters/Austin Wood having a half and Rod Andrews/Trevor Hughes a loss, with the second last mentioned individual having trouble at times standing up on the tee against the strong wind. Peter Lopusiewicz also lost his match after partner Phil Wilson was called away at the very last minute and Peter had to play on his own.
Balls went to Geoff Peters, Trevor Hughes, Colin Upson and Greg Fowler – well done lads.
Te Ngutu (Black) won the overall matchplay, with Manukorihi (Black) finishing second equal, an excellent result lads, well done. Urenui won the overall net on countback.
A big thank-you to everyone who played for all your efforts this year, hope you will return next year.

Wednesday Club
Another great day at the Manukorihi course, although we badly need rain, the little that we had didn’t do much.
Division one: Robin Broadmore 42 points, Robert Butler 41, Kerry Edgcombe, Jackie Yang and Tony Bromfield all 40 points.
Division two: Phil Daley 44. Richard Crowe and Tony Pope 42, Michael Burkhart, Carl Beale and Pete Wills all 41, with Dave Yates 40. Twos from Robert Butler, Kerry Edgcombe and Don Bowers, all picked up 2 balls each. Colin Upson had the least putts by lot from Robert Butler with 25.
Raffle lucky numbers, 8, 12, 22, 2, 15 and 36.

Saturday Ladies
No ladies competition last Saturday as we played in the Captain vs Secretary.
We did count putts and points went to Lesley Elliott & Jo Broadmore 3pts for 30 putts, Fiona Rook 2 pts for 31 putts and Trish Crawford & Arohaena Wilson 1pt for 34 putts.
This weekend we play Aotearoa Cup, Coronation Medal, Vets Trophy and Best Gross, all net.
The Nine Hole competition is Stableford.

Tuesday Ladies
Another beautiful day for golf and some good scores as well. For the 9 Holers Frances wins the $5 voucher with 2 up and Frances along with Colleen get 3 pts for 15 putts, Dot B gets 2 for 17 and Joan 1 for 18.
For the 18 Holers Pauline wins the $5 voucher with a net 66 along with Marie who had a net 68. Christine had a lovely 2 on 15th so wins a $10 voucher. Our putting results were: Fay 3 pts for 28, Pauline 2 for 29 and Helen J 1 pt for 30.
The raffle was won by Jo and next week we are playing the first Round of the Nancy McCormick and the starter is Bev.

PRO – TIP
The Putting Grip which is widely taught when a golfer first starts is called the reverse overlapping grip. If you are right handed place your left forefinger down the outside of your right hand. It may curl around your little finger or straight down along all your fingers. It is a personal feel, whichever feels comfortable. (Lefties do the opposite of course. )
This grip is recommended because it helps keep the back of the Left Hand going forward thus keeping the CLUB FACE SQUARE towards your TARGET !! In the world of golf there are many different styles & putters but try the REVERSE OVERLAPPING GRIP FIRST before the others you might just find that YOU LIKE IT !!!
