Club Captains Report
The day last Saturday was not everyone’s cup of tea but there were sixteen keen golfers that turned up willing to give the annual Greenkeeper’s revenge a go.
Comp for the day was all tee off the yellow on Par 5’s, White Par 4’s and
Blue Par 3’s.
Ladies were given six extra shots and the men had five taken off them.
They could lose or gain these by ladies losing one for every 3 putt and the men got one back for every no putt (chip in)
The best for the day, with 71 net by lot, was Strotty from NP, from J Chandler.
The least putts went to Richie with 31.
Only one chip in and only one two and that was on the last hole at the same time by Robert.
The two ladies that played, Nicole had only one three putt and Trish had three.
If anyone wishes to get lessons on how to three putt on any green, make an appointment with the President as he managed seven for the day with five on the trot.
We had eight raffle draws and the club house was crying once again for the Crawford’s missing out completely.
This weekend is Club finals day and good golfing to those players who tee off between 8am and 9.30am. There will be room for casual golfers between 9.30am & 11am but please keep in mind final players have complete right of way so if they get behind you stop and have a Kit Kat and let them through.

Wednesday Club
There was no play on Wednesday due to the weather conditions, the second round of the Strokeplay will be next week, turn up at 9am for a 9 30 tee off. If you are running late please phone ahead.
There will be no Wednesday Club on the 26th June. The club will be hosting the Taranaki greenkeeper’s tournament. This will be of great benefit, to show other greens staff in Taranaki the great course that we have.

The course staff are starting to take out the trees on the left of the 3rd green. We will be doing most of the work on the farmers land; this will give a lot more light around the green, in time we will replant with some colourful plants.
We are looking for helpers to cut and split the wood for the club to sell for the next winter. This is a great fundraiser for the club. If you have some time, please contact Jim Newlove for the days that you are available.

Saturday Ladies
I believe two ladies, who must have been desperate for a game of golf, turned up on Saturday in spite of the atrocious weather. Most of us stayed warm & cosy at home.
Good luck to the finalists this Saturday. Let’s hope the weather is on our side.
Tuesday Ladies
What a yukky day for golf, skiffy showers coming across frequently and heavy underfoot. Dot and Frances played the final of the 9-hole matchplay with Dot coming out the winner. Congratulations to you. The rest of the 9 Holers played Putts which Joan won and receives a $5 voucher.
The 18 Holers played Secretary’s Choice which was best Stableford over 9 holes. Both Bev and Robyn had 19 points so won the days vouchers.
Putting results were: Fay 3 pts for 30, Joc & Mary 2 for 31 & Rhonda 1 for 33.
Twos were drawn and Joy E and Rhonda were the lucky ones.
Must have been Rhonda’s day as she won the raffle AGAIN!
Next week is the 1st round of the Barclay Cup and the starter is Joy A.
PRO – TIP
ALWAYS TRY to BRUSH THE TURF, if you do you will never top the ball !! Now read that again because all amateurs top the ball & it costs you shots every time. Easy for me to say but not always easy to do.
A great routine is always to take 1 practice swing & try to brush the turf or take a divot. (It’s the same thing.)
The practice swing is a rehearsal of what you are about to do, so by brushing the turf or taking a divot you are allowing the loft of the club to lift the ball. Do it on your practice swing you have given yourself every chance of doing the same swing on the ball.
To improve – ALWAYS TRY to BRUSH THE TURF.
